American Pie is a movie that released in 1999 about four friends, and Stiffler, that are in their senior year of high school. As is normal with these types of teenage movies they are all virgins and they set up a goal to have sex with someone by the end of their senior year.   Several different hijinks occur throughout the movie. Our titular character, Jim Levenstein, for example violates a poor apple pie, has a model girl from Europe somewhere force him to striptease, and then ultimately, he ejaculates much too early. All of these are rather hilarious and rather awkward moments between him, his friends, and family. He has three other close friends, Kevin Myers, Chris Ostreicher, and of course Paul Finch. There is something nefarious that we all know about but collectively seem to forget about. We are the product, on Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, Twitch, and even LinkedIn, we are the product. Each of these social media platforms, however professional they proclaim themselves to be, sells us to their advertisers. With LinkedIn they just also sell us to companies, “Hey we have X-million users looking for jobs.” What’s even worse is that it seems sites like Pnet, SEEK, 3SMedia, and other job sites have started treating us the exact same way. Job seekers are no longer desperate people who need to find a job, and what’s worse is that as things have progressed, I now know that other millennials my age are also struggling. Want to hear something that becomes surprisingly frustrating? Two days into this week and I have barely spoken out loud for more than a few minutes. Now, living alone is something most people don’t think about, in fact, I am sure that there are people that wish they live alone. But, as the days become weeks, the weeks become months, and now the months have become years, you get over it.  I am back from holidays and boy oh boy was there a learning experience. Specifically, my father learned why I despise a very specific car that is everywhere on the South African roads.  The absurdity of having to get things done as an adult can be shocking and when I see people on TV shows somehow have things together, I do wonder. Joey made a good point in the episode of Friends where he tells them they are all hanging around a coffee shop at 11:30 on a Wednesday morning. The simple things, like just keeping your wardrobe functioning can make you feel like you are going completely insane. Take for example the latest issue I am having, as someone who spends about 99% of his time at home, I cook, clean, read, and pretend to work all in the same clothing. Now, in the grand scheme of things this means that I only need to do the washing once every two weeks, because I don’t stress about what I am wearing and when.
